Giampaolo Barone

Short CV

Giampaolo Barone obtained the Degree in Chemistry in 1994 and the Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1998, at the University of Palermo, with a thesis on the interaction of DNA with methyltin(IV) compounds.

In the period 1999-2001 has been postdoctoral fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Salerno and, in the period 2001-2004, of the Department Chemistry "S. Cannizzaro" of the University of Palermo, where presently covers the role of assistant professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry. He is member of the Board of Teachers of the Doctorate course of “Chemical Sciences” of the University of Palermo.

From 2005 he is involved in the organization of the European Summerschool in Quantum Chemistry (ESQC)

European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) outstation at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) of Hamburg, Germany, in 1996 and in 2001; Department of Chemistry of the University of Bath, UK, in 1999; Department of Theoretical Chemistry of the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Department of Theoretical Chemistry, University of Uppsala, Sweden; Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de Burgos, Spain.

Scientific Interests

interaction of metal complexes with DNA; chemical and spectroscopic properties of metal compounds; role played by inorganic catalysts in the reactivity of organic compounds.
