Giorgio Pino is Full Professor in Philosophy of Law; he graduated from the University of Palermo with a degree in Law (1996) and then received a LL.M. from the European Academy of Legal Theory (Brussels, 1997), and in Law and Computers from the University of Bologna (2001).
Professor Pino also holds a Ph.D. in Human Rights (University of Palermo, 2001), and served for three years at the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, Rome, 2002-2004).
He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Edinburgh (1998), and a visiting research fellow at the University of Girona (2006), at the Columbia University (New York, 2007), at Oxford University (2009), and at the European University Institute (Florence, Fernand Braudel Fellow, 2013).
Professeur invité
at the École de droit, Université Paris 1, Panthéon-Sorbonne (2013, 2014). He also lectures regularly at the Master Global Rule of Law and Constitutional Democracy, University of Genova.

Co-editor of Diritto & Questioni pubbliche, an international on-line journal on philosophy of law and public policy, of Ethos/Nomos, and assistant editor of Ragion pratica, Professor Pino has extensively published in Italian and foreign journals, such as Law and Philosophy, Doxa, Ragion pratica, Analisi e diritto and is the author of the books Il diritto all’identità personale. Interpretazione costituzionale e creatività giurisprudenziale (il Mulino, 2003), Diritti fondamentali e ragionamento giuridico (Giappichelli, 2008), Diritti e interpretazione. Il ragionamento giuridico nello Stato costituzionale (il Mulino, 2010), Derechos fundamentales, conflictos y ponderación (Palestra editores), Interpretazione e “crisi” delle fonti, Il costituzionalismo dei diritti, and co-editor of the book Filosofia del diritto. Introduzione critica al pensiero giuridico e al diritto positivo (with A. Schiavello and V. Villa, Giappichelli, 2013) and Rule of Law, L'ideale della legalità (with V. Villa, il Mulino, 2016).

His research interests mainly concern privacy rights, freedom of expression, religious freedom, legal reasoning, theory of fundamental rights, and constitutional interpretation.
