Education and professional training

  • September 2004: Research Grant at Sandgerdi Marine Biological Field Station within BIOCE Project (European Union and University of Reykjavik, Iceland).
  • January 2001 – June 2001: Research grant from the University of Palermo to undertake a collaborative project at the University of Florence, Aquatic Ecology Laboratory (Prof. Guido Chelazzi), Florence, Italy.
  • December 2000: Research grant from the University of Palermo to undertake a collaborative project at the Plymouth Marine Laboratory (Dr. John Widdows), Plymouth, UK.
  • 1994: Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Science (University of Messina, Italy): Marine environment and resources. Title of thesis: “Effects of the trophic and environmental factors on growth performance of Mediterranean mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis, LMK. 1819) cultured in open-sea in the Gulf of Castellammare (South Tyrrhenian Sea)”.
  • January 1994 – October 1994: Contract-researcher at the Ecology Department, University of Messina (Italy).
